History 1990s

Lancia Delta Integrale 16v / Evoluzione / HF Integrale

Overview

Building on the momentum of the earlier Delta HF 4WD and Integrale 8v, the Lancia Delta Integrale 16v and Evoluzione versions (1989–1992) refined an already dominant formula. These evolutions featured a wider track, improved suspension, and revised aerodynamics to stay ahead of the competition under Group A rules. Even as rival manufacturers advanced their AWD programs, Lancia remained a benchmark — securing multiple titles and keeping its rally dynasty alive well into the early ’90s.

Technical Specs & Innovations

The Evoluzione variants featured boxed arches, new suspension pickup points, and improved cooling — allowing the car to remain competitive even as rivals pushed forward with newer platforms.

🏆 Competitive Highlights

  • 1989–1991 WRC Manufacturers’ Champion — Lancia extended its unprecedented dominance with consecutive team titles.
  • 1990 & 1991 Drivers’ Titles — Didier Auriol and Juha Kankkunen delivered key wins with the 16v and Evoluzione models.
  • Victories across Monte Carlo, Safari, and Corsica showed the Integrale's all-surface mastery.

Even as newer cars emerged, the Integrale held its own through sheer development depth, experienced drivers, and the sheer will of the Martini-backed Lancia team.

Driving Characteristics

Renowned for its neutral handling and relentless grip, the Integrale was forgiving yet fast. The 16v and Evo models delivered sharper turn-in, improved braking stability, and greater traction out of corners — especially in slippery or technical rallies. It became a driver favorite for its predictability under pressure.
