History 1990s

Škoda Felicia Kit Car

Overview

The Škoda Felicia Kit Car was developed in the mid-to-late 1990s under the FIA’s F2 Kit Car regulations as Škoda Motorsport's official entry into the competitive world of two-wheel-drive tarmac rallying. Based on the humble Felicia hatchback, the car was transformed with aggressive bodywork, a high-revving engine, and bespoke suspension to compete in national series across Europe. While never a full WRC contender, it helped reinvigorate Škoda’s rally presence ahead of its transition to World Rally Car machinery with the Octavia WRC.

Technical Specs & Innovations

Though based on a modest road car, the Felicia Kit Car featured significant rally upgrades and punchy performance. It was best suited to narrow, twisty tarmac events typical of Central and Eastern European rallies.

🏆 Competitive Highlights

  • Czech National Rally Success — Consistent podiums and wins in the hands of works drivers like Emil Triner and Pavel Sibera.
  • 1996–1998 FIA 2-Litre World Cup Appearances — Proved reliable and competitive on select international asphalt rounds.
  • Helped establish Škoda Motorsport’s credibility and bridge the gap to their later WRC and S2000 programs.

Though it never claimed international titles, the Felicia Kit Car delivered impressive results within its class and left a strong mark on national-level asphalt rallying.

Driving Characteristics

The Felicia Kit Car was well-balanced, with linear power delivery and responsive steering. It handled tight corners and elevation changes with ease, and its light weight made it particularly nimble in technical sections. It lacked the punch of French rivals, but rewarded precision and consistency.
