Citroën DS3 WRC

Overview

Introduced for the 2011 WRC season under the new 1.6L turbo regulations, the Citroën DS3 WRC replaced the all-conquering C4 WRC. Compact, agile, and refined for tight and twisty stages, it became the weapon of choice for Sébastien Loeb’s final three world titles (2011–2013) and multiple rally wins for his successors. The DS3’s short wheelbase and balanced chassis made it a standout performer on asphalt and gravel alike.

Technical Specs & Innovations

The DS3 WRC took advantage of Citroën’s years of asphalt rally mastery while evolving suspension geometry and aerodynamics to suit the smaller chassis.

🏆 Competitive Highlights

  • 2011–2013 WRC Drivers’ Championships: Sébastien Loeb (Citroën Total WRT)
  • 2011 & 2012 WRC Manufacturers’ Championships: Citroën Total WRT
  • Dominant on asphalt rallies such as Rallye de France–Alsace and Rally Catalunya.
  • Multiple wins with drivers like Sébastien Loeb, Mikko Hirvonen, Kris Meeke, and Mads Østberg.

Between 2011 and 2016, the DS3 WRC earned over 25 WRC victories across all surfaces, cementing its place as one of Citroën’s greatest rally cars.

Driving Characteristics

The DS3 WRC excelled in precision driving. Its short wheelbase allowed quick rotation through hairpins and rapid transitions on technical stages, while its stability at high speed made it competitive on fast gravel rallies. Drivers praised its balance and predictability, especially on asphalt, though it could be twitchy if unsettled on rough gravel.
