Overview
Simo Lampinen, born in 1943 in Porvoo, Finland, overcame childhood polio that affected his mobility and depth perception to become one of the original “Flying Finns” of international rallying. He began competing as a teenager and quickly rose to prominence in the early 1960s, capturing national titles and gaining attention for his speed and maturity behind the wheel. Lampinen became a foundational figure in Finland’s rallying legacy and was one of the first Finnish drivers to achieve consistent success outside Scandinavia during the 1960s.
