Overview
Shekhar Mehta, born in 1945 in Uganda and later based in Kenya, was the king of the Safari Rally during its most grueling years. Known for his endurance, strategic thinking, and deep familiarity with East African terrain, Mehta was one of the few drivers who specialized in long-distance African events. Though his WRC presence was limited primarily to endurance rallies, his dominance in the early 1980s made him a standout figure in the sport’s most punishing championship round.
