Overview
Tony Pond, born in 1945 in Wiltshire, England, was one of the UK’s top rally drivers during the late 1970s and 1980s. Known for his smooth, calculated style and technical feedback, Pond became a trusted figure for manufacturers looking to develop competitive cars. Although he never secured a WRC victory, he remained a consistent and respected competitor, particularly in tarmac events. His most notable 1980s legacy came from his involvement with British Leyland and the launch of the MG Metro 6R4 during the final years of Group B.
