Overview
Jean-Pierre Fontenay, born in 1957 in France, was a leading figure in cross-country rallying during the 1990s. While not a regular WRC competitor, Fontenay made a major impact in rally raid events such as the Paris–Dakar Rally, where his skill in endurance driving, navigation, and mechanical sympathy earned him top results. Driving for Mitsubishi’s factory-supported team, Fontenay became one of the most consistent performers in off-road rallying and played a key role in the brand’s dominance of long-distance desert events during the decade.
