Though not yet a headline name in the 1990s, Stohl’s discipline and persistence set the foundation for his factory-supported WRC career in the following decade.

• Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III–VI (Group N): Stohl's main machinery during the decade, used to great effect in both WRC and ERC rallies.
• Ford Escort RS Cosworth: Briefly used in tarmac and mixed-surface events during the early part of his international career.

Stohl’s mechanical sensitivity and consistency made him an ideal match for the durable Group N Lancer, especially in endurance-heavy events.
