1967 Rallye Lyon–Charbonnières

Overview

The 1967 edition of the Lyon–Charbonnières–Stuttgart–Solitude Rally showcased classic French road rallying at its best—fast, tight, and technical, with an emphasis on driving finesse over brute power. Known for its blend of Alpine roads and cross-border complexity, it served as a true test of consistency and control.

Route

Distance: ~1,150 km
Surface: Asphalt and cobbled hill routes
Hazards: Rain-slick corners, narrow lanes, and hidden junctions

Winding through the Rhône-Alpes region and into Germany's Solitude area, the course included hairpin-packed climbs, wooded descents, and stretches of fast-flowing countryside roads—often under changeable spring weather conditions.

Every corner required rhythm, and co-drivers had to keep perfect time through numerous pace and navigation checks.

Navigation & Challenges

Drivers and co-drivers had to maintain a flawless pace over narrow rural roads and sudden junctions, where even minor delays could cost crucial seconds in such a tightly contested rally. Complex timing controls and long liaison sections added an endurance element to this otherwise speed-focused event.
