The 1967 East African Safari Rally marked the 15th edition of one of the world's toughest motorsport events. Route

Kenya: Challenging gravel routes near Mount Kenya, water crossings in the Rift Valley, and slippery volcanic ash.
Uganda: Dense forests and red clay roads created traction and cooling challenges during humid stages.
Tanzania: High-speed, dusty stages near Arusha with brutal heat and the occasional wildlife hazard.

The rally’s punishing route covered varied and extreme conditions across three countries:

Navigation & Challenges

  • Mud & Floods: Torrential rains created massive washouts, river crossings, and axle-deep ruts.
  • Wildlife Hazards: Lions, elephants, and livestock were real risks along the route—sometimes mid-stage.
