The 1989 edition of the Paris–Dakar Rally cemented Ari Vatanen’s legacy as a desert master. Driving Peugeot’s advanced 405 Turbo 16, Vatanen conquered a brutal 11,000 km route through some of the harshest environments on Earth. The rally featured massive dunes, scorching heat, and complex navigation, but Vatanen and co-driver Bruno Berglund maintained remarkable speed and reliability. Their dominant run earned Peugeot its third consecutive Dakar victory.
