The 1994 Swedish Rally was a turning point for young Finnish driver Tommi Mäkinen, who stunned the WRC field with a breakout win in the snowy forests of Värmland. Co-driven by the experienced Seppo Harjanne, Mäkinen kept the Ford Escort RS Cosworth perfectly balanced on the edge of control, navigating icy corners and frozen straights with blistering speed. It was his first WRC victory, and it marked the arrival of a future world champion.
