The 2014 Dakar Rally marked the sixth running of the event in South America and featured a punishing route through Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile. Competitors faced extreme temperatures, high-altitude passes, and some of the most unforgiving sand dunes in the Atacama Desert. Bolivia made its debut as a host country, adding challenging wet and muddy sections to the mix.


Route

Argentine Pampas: Fast gravel and dusty farm roads in extreme summer heat.
Bolivian Highlands: Muddy and waterlogged tracks at altitudes above 3,500 meters.
Atacama Desert: Massive dunes, fesh-fesh sand, and blinding sunlight with little margin for error.
