NSU TT 1300

Overview

Launched in 1965, the NSU TT 1300 was a high-performance variant of the NSU Prinz series, developed by NSU Motorenwerke AG in West Germany. It was a lightweight, rear-engined sedan aimed at competitive touring car and rally use. Its compact size, agility, and powerful-for-its-class engine made it a popular choice in the under-1300 cc rally class.

Technical Specs & Innovations

The TT 1300 featured a reinforced chassis, front disc brakes, and rack-and-pinion steering. Its alloy engine block and short wheelbase gave it an ideal balance of power and agility on twisty European rally stages.

πŸ† Competitive Highlights

  • 1967 Rallye Monte-Carlo (Class Winner) β€” Dominated the under-1300 cc class against larger entries, especially on icy stages.
  • 1968 Tour de Corse & Alpine Rally entries β€” Regular participant in tight and technical rallies favoring its nimble handling.
  • 1960s German Championship Rallies β€” Multiple class wins in events such as the Hessen Rallye and the Deutschland Rallye.

Though not a threat for overall wins, the TT 1300 consistently outperformed rivals in its displacement category, earning it a cult following among privateers.

Driving Characteristics

Drivers appreciated the car’s sharp steering, lively throttle response, and confidence-inspiring grip. Its rear-engine bias offered excellent traction on loose surfaces but demanded careful throttle modulation to avoid oversteer.
