Volvo PV544

Overview

The Volvo PV544, produced from 1958 to 1965, was an evolution of the earlier PV444 and featured a more powerful engine, improved visibility, and a stronger chassis. With its rugged construction and B-series inline-4 engine, the PV544 became a dominant force in early 1960s rallying, especially in snowy and mixed-surface conditions. Its combination of reliability, mechanical simplicity, and strong low-end torque made it a favorite among privateers and factory teams alike.

Technical Specs & Innovations

The PV544 featured a robust body-on-frame design and was often equipped with close-ratio gearboxes, reinforced suspension, and upgraded brakes for competition use. Later models with the B18 engine offered improved torque and durability in harsh conditions.
