Overview
Bernard Darniche, born in 1942 in Cenon, France, was a dominant force in European rallying throughout the 1970s. Known for his raw speed, flamboyant personality, and mastery of tarmac stages, Darniche became a fan favorite and a fixture in the Alpine-Renault and Lancia teams. He specialized in twisty, technical events like the Tour de Corse, where his smooth yet aggressive driving style shone. While not always consistent across mixed-surface events, Darniche was nearly unbeatable on asphalt and was instrumental in securing multiple manufacturers’ victories for Alpine and Lancia.
