Overview
Markku Alén, born in 1951 in Helsinki, Finland, was one of the most thrilling rally drivers of the 1970s. Known for his explosive driving style and relentless pace, Alén became a fan favorite and a central figure in the factory Lancia team. Though he never secured an official WRC championship, he was a title contender throughout the decade and unofficially topped the driver standings in 1978 before the WRC Drivers' Championship was formally established. Alén's passion for rallying was matched only by his talent, and his influence helped shape the rise of Group B and modern rallying’s global popularity.
