Overview
Michèle Mouton, born in 1951 in Grasse, France, was a trailblazing figure in world rallying and remains the most successful female driver in WRC history. Rising to international prominence in the late 1970s, she joined Audi Sport during the Group B revolution and shocked the world with her raw pace, fearlessness, and composure. In 1981, she became the first woman to win a WRC rally, and in 1982 she came within a single event of winning the World Rally Championship outright. Mouton’s legacy extends far beyond her driving career, as she later became a key FIA official and advocate for safety and equality in motorsport.
