Round 5 of the 1970 European Rally Championship, the Tulip Rally challenged crews over a mixed international course from the Dutch coast into the French Alps and back, testing both high-speed precision and endurance on asphalt stages.

Route

Noordwijk → Amersfoort: Fast asphalt sections on Dutch highways.
Villard‐de‐Lans Loop: Alpine mountain stages including a 290 km night loop.
Circuit Zandvoort: Final high‐speed test at the seaside race track.

Competitors tackled nine closed‐road special stages totalling 76.9 km, linked by over 3000km of liaison through France and Belgium:

Heavy snow in the Alps forced last‐minute diversion routes, while the mix of high‐speed runs and technical Alpine tests demanded flawless navigation and tire choices.
