Japan

🏆 Part of the WRC Championship

📍 Toyota City, Japan

📅 June 3, 2027 – June 6, 2027

Rally Japan brings the World Rally Championship to the mountain roads of Aichi and Gifu prefectures from June 3–6 for the sixth round of the 2027 season. Based around Toyota City, the event marks the third consecutive asphalt rally on the calendar, but presents a very different challenge from the roads of Croatia and the Canary Islands.

Japan's narrow, twisting mountain roads leave very little room for mistakes. Crews will navigate dense forests, tight hairpins and constantly changing corners, often with barriers, trees or steep drops waiting just beyond the edge of the road. Maintaining a consistent rhythm is essential, as even a small mistake can result in significant damage or an early retirement.

Unpredictable weather adds another layer of difficulty. Rain can quickly turn the already demanding asphalt into a slippery surface, particularly through shaded forest sections where moisture can linger long after the weather improves. Precise pace notes, careful braking and confidence in the car's handling are critical to keeping competitive times without taking unnecessary risks.

With the new WRC27-generation cars continuing through their first championship season, Rally Japan will provide another test of how teams have adapted to the regulations. The technical nature of the stages places considerable emphasis on suspension setups, braking performance and finding the right balance between stability and responsiveness.

Rally Japan isn't necessarily about who can carry the most speed into a corner. It's about maintaining that speed through one corner after another without getting caught out. There are very few opportunities to recover from a mistake, and the difference between a clean stage and a wrecked car can come down to a matter of inches.
