Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 (2022–2026)

Overview

2022 marked Toyota's switch from the Yaris World Rally Car to the Rally1 platform. The Rally1 version was constructed around a spaceframe safety cell rather than the production-style bodyshell of earlier WRC cars.

Technical Specs & Innovations

  • Engine: 1.6-litre turbocharged inline-four; 100 kW hybrid assistance in 2022–2024, removed from 2025
  • Drivetrain and Layout: Four-wheel drive; front-engined Rally1 hatchback
  • Category: Rally1

🏆 Competitive Highlights

Kalle Rovanperä took the 2022 and 2023 drivers' titles in the car; Sébastien Ogier claimed his ninth in 2025, and Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin won the 2026 crown. Toyota secured every manufacturers' title from 2022 to 2026.

Driving Characteristics

The platform combines strong mechanical traction with an aero-led approach to high-speed stability. Suspension, differentials and tyre conservation remain decisive across gravel, snow and asphalt.

Legacy & Cultural Impact

The GR Yaris Rally1 bridged the WRC's hybrid experiment and its return to non-hybrid Rally1 regulations, becoming Toyota's central championship-winning platform.
