Simo Lampinen, born in 1943 in Finland, was one of the first drivers to establish Finland’s reputation as a rallying powerhouse. Despite contracting polio at a young age, which left him with a lifelong limp, Lampinen quickly rose through the ranks with fearless speed and remarkable car control. He became a works driver for Saab, Lancia, and Peugeot, known for his quick adaptation to new machinery and changing rally formats. His early victories helped lay the foundation for future Finnish stars, and his longevity in the sport made him one of the most respected figures of his era.
