Luis Climent

Overview

Luis Climent moved from Spain's national series into a successful production-car WRC program during the second half of the decade.

Climent joined Skoda's works WRC program in 2000. That opportunity followed directly from his verified national and privateer results in the 1990s.

🏆 Major Achievements

1996 Spanish Rally Champion: Won the national title in a Citroën ZX.
Production-car contender: Finished runner-up in the FIA production-car standings in 1997 and third in 1998.
1999 private-team success: Helped Valencia Terra y Mar win the FIA Teams' Cup.

Vehicle Highlights

  • SEAT Ibiza Kit Car: His primary rally weapon in the mid-to-late ’90s, lightweight, agile, and dominant on tarmac.
  • Ford Escort RS Cosworth: Used in earlier career stages in national events, giving him early AWD experience.

Climent’s mastery of the Kit Car platform allowed him to regularly challenge more powerful cars on twisty Iberian stages.

Driving Style & Legacy

Luis Climent drove with methodical precision, favoring controlled aggression and high-efficiency cornering. He excelled on tarmac, where technical rhythm and traction management were key. Though he never pursued a full WRC campaign, his domestic dominance and contributions to SEAT’s success left a lasting mark on Spanish rallying in the 1990s.
